Swimming Development

Carlisle Pool is committed to providing the continued development of children of all ages and abilities. Carlisle Swimming Pool runs and manages the ASA National Plan for teaching (N.P.T.S.). That is a plan which has been developed by the A.S.A. to provide a template for learn to swim schemes.

The N.P.T.S. is a comprehensive, integrated, progressive teaching programme based upon sound technical and educational principles and provides a standard reference for Carlisle Swimming Development to work with the A.S.A..

The N.P.T.S. aims to provide a degree of consistency throughout the Country with regard to what we expect swimmers to do and how we expect them to do it.

MAIN AIMS OF SWIMMING DEVELOPMENT

• Develop a wide range of skills
• Emphasise the importance of initial orientation
• Develop high reliability through repetition, revision and consolidation
• Identify the correct standards of skill performance
• Provide assessment against clearly identified outcomes
• Provides a direct link to A.S.A. awards scheme

Phases
The Plan is made up of six phases. These are
Phase 1 - Non Swimmer
Phase 2 - Beginner
Phase 3 - Improver 1
Phase 4 - Improver 2
Phase 5 - Advanced 1
Phase 6 - Advanced 2

There are 2 levels within each phase which means the children need to complete 1 levels altogether.

Once enrolled your child will be continually assessed during the lessons. On week seven you will be given an enrolment slip indicating the class to which he/she should re-enrol for the next block of lessons.

On completion of phase 4 your child will have reached a standard to progress to other aquatic activities such as swimming club, synchronised swimming, water polo etc.

Adult learning/improvement classes are available.

Private 1 to 1, 1 to 2 or 1 to 3 lessons are also available.
